Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Does the Ball Dome make noise?
As your cat approaches the toy, the motion sensors will be triggered, and cause the plate to tilt. Whenever the plate moves, which will happen at certain intervals, a sound can be heard. This little noise will draw your cat’s attention.
How can I remove the ball from the Ball Dome?
Simply hold the Ball Dome upside down, move it around a little if needed, and the ball will fall right out.
What if my cat doesn’t take to the Ball Dome straight away?
Don’t worry if the Ball Dome doesn’t become your cat’s new favourite toy straight away. Most cats take some getting used to their new toy. Eventually, they will become curious and will go near the Ball Dome. There are however some things you can do to make the Ball Dome more appealing to your cat.
- Place a small bell inside the ball
- Apply catnip spray on a cloth and put it inside the ball. (Never use catnip herbs inside the Ball Dome as they can jam the motor)
- Insert a Catit Fireball (sold separately) into the Ball Dome
- Do not insert treats into the ball. Treats and food are a hunting reward, and your cat should always be able to eat the food in the end.
- Move the Ball Dome to a different spot in your house.
The Catit Ball Dome is paw-friendly. What does this mean?
This interactive toy is suited for most cat paws. The openings are 4 cm (1.6 inches) in diameter, which makes this toy suitable for kitten paws, regular paws, and even giant Maine Coon paws. If your cat is polydactyl, which means they have extra digits, please measure your cat’s paws to find out whether the Ball Dome is suitable for your furry friend.
Is this toy safe for my cat to use?
None of the Ball Dome parts move violently or at high speed. Therefore, they are safer for your cat’s paws, so you don’t need to worry about your furrend injuring itself. Do however make sure that your cat is large enough not to be able to stick its head trough the holes, while ensuring your cat’s paws aren’t too big for the top openings.
From what age can my cat play with the Ball Dome?
Kittens as well as adult cats will have tons of fun with the Catit Ball Dome. Especially younger cats will love the Ball Dome as it teaches them how to hunt. A good indication as to when you can let your kitten safely play with the Ball Dome, is to wait until you are 100% certain that your curious little kitty won’t be able to stick their head through the openings in the Ball Dome.
What is the difference between sensor mode and continuous mode?
When the toy is set to continuous mode, it will continue to work until you turn it off or the batteries run out. When you move the slider to sensor mode, the Ball Dome will be activated when your cat walks past the sensor. After 25 seconds, the toy will go into sleep mode, and will only start working again when the sensors detect motion nearby.
How do I switch between continuous and sensor mode?
When the slider on top of your Ball Dome sits in the middle, the toy is switched off. Move the slider to the right for continuous mode, or to the left for sensor mode.
Where is the motion sensor located on the Ball Dome?
The Ball Dome has two motion sensors. When you rotate the toy so the Catit logo faces you, you can find 2 small holes on the sides of the Ball Dome, at 90° from the logo – one on the left, and one on the right. That’s where the sensors are located.
Which batteries does the Ball Dome use?
The Catit Ball Dome requires 2 standard AA batteries. Make sure to only use alkaline or rechargeable batteries, and do not mix different types or brands.
My Ball Dome jams, though nothing is stuck in it. What can I do?
If the plate no longer moves but you can hear that the motor is operational, please replace the batteries. With a fresh pair of batteries, your Ball Dome will be good as new!
Does the motion sensor work in the dark?
The motion sensors activate the Ball Dome when they sense a difference in light intensity. When there is very little light in the room, the sensors will not activate the toy. At night, this feature will help you get a sound sleep. If you want the Ball Dome to work in complete darkness, try placing it close to a bright night light. Tip: insert a Catit Fireball (sold separately) for an exciting added light effect!
How do I clean the Ball Dome?
The Catit Ball Dome is not dishwasher safe. Never immerse the toy in water or clean it with water, as this can damage the electronic components. Simply use a damp or dry cloth to wipe the Ball Dome clean. Having a hard time reaching the inside of the Ball Dome? You can remove the green cover by following the exact steps below. Is the Catit Ball Dome energy efficient?
Absolutely! In comparison to other battery-operated toys, the Catit Ball Dome’s battery consumption is 70% lower!
