ACTIVE INGREDIENTS:
Devil’s Claw root, Pau D’Arco bark, Hydrangea root, Burdock root, Wild Lettuce, Lobelia, Sarsaparilla root, Black Cohosh root, Black Walnut, Bentonite Clay, Guaiacum resin, Cayenne fruit
Devil’s Claw Root (Harpagophytum procumbens)
This herb has been used for arthritis for centuries. The active principles include the iridoid glycoside family: harpagoside, harpagide, and procumbide. One trial reported that Devil’s Claw worked as well as a slow-acting anti-arthritic drug, diacerhein, in relieving pain, therefore it is effective in alleviating symptoms associated with cat or dog arthritis.
Pau D`Arco inner bark (Tabebuia impetiginosa)
Traditionally used as a blood purifier and blood builder. It has a natural anodyne (pain-relieving) effect which helps to relieve pain associated with arthritis. High in Iron, it helps with the assimilation of other nutrients.
Hydrangea root (Hydrangea arborescens)
This herb has been used traditionally to remove acid and calcium deposits from joints as it acts as a solvent and as an astringent to help shrink inflamed tissue, reducing symptoms associated with cat and dog arthritis.
Burdock root (Arctium lappsa)
Burdock has been used traditionally as a blood purifier and as a classic alterative herb which is also helpful in cat and dog arthritis. Burdock root contains large amounts of inulin and mucilage which may help to explain its beneficial effect on inflammatory conditions of the bowel such as gastritis or ulcerative colitis. One of the constituents of burdock called polyacetylene has a demonstrated antimicrobial effect. Other potential benefits include anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory activities from inhibition of platelet activating factors (PAF).
Wild Lettuce aerial parts (Lactuca virosa)
It helps to treat pain associated with cat and dog arthritis.
Lobelia aerial parts (Lobelia inflata)
Early North American herbal Physicians from the turn-of-the-century considered lobelia to be one of the most important medicinal plants to be used as an anodyne or pain reliever.
Sarsaparilla root (Smilax officinalis)
At the turn-of-the-century, Mexican use of sarsaparilla included using it as a treatment for rheumatism. One of the active constituents of sarsaparilla is the saponin called sarsasapogenin as well as beta sitosterol which may help to explain some of the anti-inflammatory activity associated with this herb.
Black Cohosh root (Cimicifuga racemosa)
Black Cohosh has been used by Native Americans for centuries for a variety of different chronic conditions. The most active chemicals found in black cohosh include triterpene glycosides and isoflavones. A recent study has also suggested that black cohosh could help to protect animals from developing osteoporosis.
Black Walnut hulls (Juglans nigra)
Black Walnut is an alterative which means that it helps to restore health. It is a purifier that removes toxins from the blood and an anti-inflammatory reducing inflammation from arthritis.
Bentonite Clay
Clay has been used medicinal both internally and externally for millennia by indigenous peoples all over the world. When used internally it has the ability to attract and bind to various toxins in the digestive tract enabling the body to successfully eliminate these toxins. It consists of hydrous aluminum silicates plus iron oxide and magnesium oxide with either sodium or calcium oxides. It can absorb 40 – 50 times its weight and swells to form gel-like masses which accounts for its ability to dramatically increase elimination of toxins.
Bentonite is unusual in the fact that when exposed to water it will start to produce an electrical charge which will attract impurities, heavy metals and other internal contaminants which dramatically affect your pets health. An added benefit may be its trace mineral content which will help to utilize vitamins and other nutrients found in foods.
Guaiacum resin (Guaiacum officinale)
Traditionally used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, gout and rheumatism. It helps relieve pain and inflammation following acute attacks
Cayenne fruit (Capsicum annum)
When used topically, capsaicin the constituent in cayenne that makes it hot is a very effective pain reliever. It is believed to deplete levels of substance P, the chemical responsible for nerve transmission of pain sensations. This makes it extremely beneficial for various nerve pains, pain caused by arthritis and soft tissue damage.
